How to Successfully Fail with Your Blog in 2022?

Is blogging still relevant in 2022? You might find this question popped up in several forums, debate groups, Facebook groups, or in your emails every now and then.

The truth is that I myself remained uncertain whether blogging can actually make someone any income working out of a laptop like it used to do 10 years back.

Well, not to brag here. But I used to make some decent amount of money using affiliate marketing back in 2010-2013. But then I fell off the wagon due to other commitments.

Anyhow, there is no single doubt in my mind that blogging is still relevant and here is to stay in many more decades to come.

But don’t take my word for it.
Let’s have a look at the statistics and data:

  1. There are over 450 million internet users who browse through roughly 20 billion pages monthly.
  2. Around 250,000 websites pop up every day. That’s a quarter of a million websites on a daily basis. This number in itself is a big indication of how big and evolving this industry is.
  3. After Covid struck worldwide, Instagram alone received 60% more hits than usual. E-commerce for essential commodities alone grew by more than 20%. Ever since then, huge demand for digital media and platforms is already underway.
  4. Blogging alone has registered a growth of more than 10% per year in the past 5 years.
  5. According to a study by Google conducted on 18+ Americans, more than 60 % of the shoppers go online before making a purchase.
  6. There have been paradigm-changing shifts in the content marketing strategy of marketers all around the globe.

Uprising of Blogging

A decade before, there was a tremendous increase in blogging all over the world. Not just at an individual level where people started blogging as a side hustle or to generate passive income online. Even at the corporate level, companies and MNCs saw blogging as a means to appear in the search engines and to let people know what they were planning and thinking.

And as an added bonus, blogging was extremely profit-yielding at that time.

Not that it is not now.

If anything, the internet has been brimming with blogs and websites.

What has changed in the domain of blogging in the past decade?

  1. Twitter, Facebook & Instagram emerged as new centers of not just connecting with friends and being active in the social media circles, but also as top places to conduct, market and advertise businesses.
  2. E-commerce grew more than 800% from 2010 to 2021. Enough said!
  3. With Covid strucking down offline businesses all over the world, digital channels became the next go-to place for survival, revival, and extension of such businesses.
  4. With people spending more and more time and money being online than ever in human history, the last better half of the decade saw the rise of millions of YouTubers, Influencers, Digital Marketers, Social Media handlers, etc.

As for the blogging part specifically:

  • SEO took the driver’s seat in determining the success of any blog or website. Keyword spamming/stuffing faded out.
  • With the upsurge in the number of websites/blogs, the competition got fierce day by day and it became harder and harder to rank websites in top search results and generate actual leads and sales.
  • Digital marketing saw a boom like never before. The need for SEO professionals, content writers, and copywriters is ever growing in today’s times as well.
  • With the advent of Artificial Intelligence(AI), search engines have been evolving their algorithms time and again indicating that content is still the king when it comes to succeeding in any digital business.
  • There has been a slight shift towards paid advertising channels such as Facebook ads, Instagram ads, Google ads, PPC, etc. since they rake in sales and pretty quickly than traditional organic methods like blogging or content marketing.

What does it mean for Blogging in 2022?

If you play your cards right, you can not only make blogging successful side hustle, you can make a decent full-time income out of it and be your own boss and live the lifestyle you have always dreamed of.

There are still tons of ways you can monetize your blog. But first, you need to know how to start a successful blog in 2022. Once you got that right, the next thing you need to focus on is bringing tons of traffic to your website.

No matter how much exceptional content you write, a blog cannot survive without an audience or traffic. You must know how to use SEO to drive traffic to your blog.

Or, if you have a little silver in your pockets, you can start with paid advertising to drive traffic to your website.

How to Successfully Fail with Blogging in 2022?

Blogging isn’t dead. But it has changed for sure. Search engine algorithms have gotten harder and with the advent of AI, a lot smarter.

Let me jot down a few things which you mustn’t do if you plan to make some real or serious money with your blog:

  • Write tons of irrelevant posts in the hope of getting high in search engine rankings. Search engines, especially Google have stopped paying attention to websites that publish loads of content that does not add any value to the readers.
  • Trying to accommodate it all in one blog. If you really want to your blog to make some real bucks, start with a small or a specific niche and work your way up. Build a loyal readership and then move to diversify. Instantly trying to ride in more than one ship will eventually lead your blog to sink.
  • Quitting too early. Passive income building takes time. 95% of the bloggers quit too early in the game. Those who are successfully making a full-time income from their blogs will tell you to persevere and keep working in the right direction until you struck the gold.
  • Not tapping social media is one of the silly mistakes that bloggers often do. Social media such as Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn are being extensively used by popular brands to market their products and services. There is no reason why you can’t do the same for your blog.
  • Not building around as a brand. A brand is everything in 2022. You shouldn’t just take your blog as a casual business because that is exactly how your readers are gonna see you. Develop your blog as a brand that becomes a household name in whatever niche you are working in.

Steps to Create a Profitable Blog in 2022?

Take notes. Creating a blog successfully doesn’t mean that it will be profitable. Everyone can create a blog these days. It’s as easy as one, two, and three. But to make a blog profitable and money-making, it takes some real effort.

Here is a quick step-by-step guide to getting your blog up and running within 24 hours:

     1. Register a domain

This sounds easy but might be a little tricky. Your domain should instantly click with the niche of your business. It can also include a keyword or can be a brand name around which you are going to build your whole business.

Once you have chosen your domain name, head over to a domain registrar and register your domain. There are many popular ones such as Godaddy, Bigrock, etc.

    2. Web Hosting for Your Blog

The next step is to choose a good web hosting provider for your blog. There are thousands of web hosts literally to choose from, although, I am going to mention the top five in the race right now:

  • Bluehost
  • WPX Hosting
  • Dreamhost
  • Siteground
  • Hostinger

You can choose from shared hosting, VPS plans, WordPress hosting, dedicated servers, cloud hosting, etc. There are a plethora of options available to pick from.

   3. Update Nameservers

Next in the line is to update your nameservers to point your domain name to the IP address of your web hosting server.

   4. Install WordPress

WordPress is the most popular CMS to start a blog. It’s simple to learn and easy to scale as your blog grows with audience and traffic.

You might have to wait a few hours after updating your nameservers for proper DNS propagation. It might take up to 24 hours.

   5. Start Blogging

Here you go. You can start with your first post.

It takes a lot of things other than these 5 steps to make your blog profitable. These steps are just to launch yourself in the space of blogging where you have a digital address on the internet.

In order to start generating some actual revenue with your blog, you are going to need:

  • Content

You need to generate super valuable, high-quality, and audience-captivating content on your blog. This is the first and the foremost prerequisite in the checklist of a money-making blog.

Without good content, you can expect your blog to fail at all levels. No matter how much money you put into the ad campaigns, if your readers do not get any value from your content, your blog is not going to generate a single penny from it.

  • Traffic

Good content will definitely give your blog a jumpstart on the competition in your niche. Although, it will not be sufficient until you can get some good standard targeted traffic to check out your content.

You should sharpen your SEO and keyword research skills to get some high-grade organic traffic from the search engines. High-quality content matched with targeted traffic converts wonderfully generating leads, customers, and sales.

There’s a lot more to learn here. But that is for another time. I will keep updating this post with more and more information regarding good offers, nice paying affiliate programs, working SEO tricks and much more.

The whole point of this whole post is to provide complete confidence that blogging is far from dead. It has taken a few difficult turns which sometimes a lot of bloggers find difficult to catch up to. But with a lot of smart work and a little hard work and patience, blogging can actively and passively generate income for you even in 2022.
